Here Come The Flying Cars!

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is looking more like Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D) and is taking a page from the X-Prize book in the development of real flying cars.

Dubbed the Transformer program, DARPA is holding a workshop to get the ball rolling and assemble teams of designers to jump start the project.

The objective of the Transformer (TX) program is to demonstrate a 1 to 4 person transportation vehicle that can drive and fly, thus enabling the warfighter to avoid water, difficult terrain, and road obstructions as well as IED and ambush threats. The vehicle will be capable of driving on prepared surface and light off-road conditions, while flight functionality will require Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL).

Obviously, DARPA has military applications in mind but getting real results within the government is a good step toward commercial flying cars — just look at all the technology NASA has brought us.

Just remember friends, buzzed flying is drunk flying.

I remember growing up and being told that we would all have flying car by the year 2000.. Well, Its 2010 and we have no flying car , no hover boards, and no personal jet pack.. the future turned out to be a huge disappointment.
