School Teaches Through Videogames, Twentysomethings Furious
NYC’s “Quest To Learn” school has achieved a goal only dreamed of by kids – they teach lessons entirely through videogames.
The class of 72 sixth graders were assembled by the Institute of Play, a nonprofit collaboration of learning experts and game designers. Quest to Learn’s got five subjects: Codeworlds (math/English), Being, Space and Place (social studies/English), The Way Things Work (math/science), Sports for the Mind (game design), and Wellness (health/PE) – beats the hell out of the three R’s.
The plan is for this class to attend Quest to Learn all the way through high school graduation, which is astonishing. Imagine SAT prep, in videogame form! I hope it’s like Half Life 2, and you beat wrong answers with crowbars.
