You don’t have to be a gamer to be interested in the PlayStation 3. Although Blu-ray players have plummeted in price over the last few years, the PS3 is still a great affordable Blu-ray player that has the ability to receive new features via software upgrades. The PS3 was redesigned last year when the Ps3 Slim was released, and it looks like the hardware is being refreshed again, according to a couple new FCC filings spotted by Engadget.
The gadget site spotted a couple of filing by “Sand Dollar Enterprise,” which is a pseudonym corporation that Sony to keep its FCC filings quiet. The new PS3 models are labeled CECH-2101A and CECH-2101B (current models are CECH-2001A and B). Unfortunately, there’s no indication as to what might be different in these new models. The best-case scenario is probably larger hard drives. The worst-case scenario is something like new manufacturers for existing components, in which case I’m sorry to have wasted your time.
