Modern Warfare 2’s Map Expansion: 1 Day, 1 Million Downloads
The Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package is a set of 5 new multiplayer maps for the mega-hit game, and sells for$15. When I first heard about it, I thought to myself, “Wow, that’s a lot of scratch for a measly 5 maps.”
Apparently, I’m the only person on earth who thought that – the expansion was downloaded over one million times in the first 24 hours of it’s release. By the end of the week, it’d tacked on another 1.5 million downloads.
That’s 2.5 million people shelling out $15 bucks in the middle of a recession for a product that doesn’t really extend gameplay all that much? Wow, people sure are addicted to this thing. Here’s some stats:
- Modern Warfare 2 has sold more than 15 million copies.
- The MW2 expansion is, to date, the highest selling game ever on Xbox Live.
- 1.75 billion hours of gameplay have been logged, equaling roughly 200,000 years of not talking to girls.
