Wi-Fi Stumblers Vanish From App Store

Apple’s really gotta knock this off. Once again, we all wake up to a story of Apple arbitrarily removing apps from their iTunes App Store – some which have been sold for years – for vauge and arbitrary reasons.

Today’s victims? Wi-Fi stumbling programs like WiFiFoFum, WiFi-Where and yFy Network Finder, which are all designed to help you find open wireless networks. You know, the same thing your iPhone does when you ask it to.

The reason? “Using private frameworks to access wireless information.” What? Why not just ban the iPhone from accessing any unprotected network, then? Because that’d have an even better effect on halting access to unprotected wireless networks.

The days of the one-man iPhone app developer are quickly vanishing – if you can’t be sure that your app won’t be removed for no good reason, why even bother spending the hours and hours coding the program in the first place?

iTunes Celebrates Its 10 Billionth Download

Ten billion served! Kind of impressive for an idea many thought wouldn’t work that ended up destroying an entire industry nobody liked in the first place.

iTunes, which holds amongst its scalps the entire music industry, celebrated its 10 billionth download since the service launched in April of 2003. The song? An old Johnny Cash tune, the aptly named “Guess Things Happen That Way,” which was downloaded by Louie Sulcer of Woodstock, GA.

Mr. Sulcer, who is 71 years young, has won the following for clicking the right “buy now” button at the right time:

An iTunes gift card valued at $10,000
A phone call from Steve Jobs, which was how he found out he’d won in the first place
A phone call from Rosanne Cash, Johnny Cash’s daughter, who thanked him for buying one of her dad’s songs
A live rendition of “Guess Things Happen That Way” from John Levinthal, Rosanne’s husband
Humongous bragging rights

What’s Mr. Sulcer to do with his gigantic iTunes gift card? He’s unsure, but says that he’ll have birthdays and Christmas set for a while now.

Final Fantasy: Now on the iPhone

And a great horde of moogles and chocobos rejoiced, as their franchise, straight and true, landed on that most chosen of platforms!

Final Fantasy – specifically, Final Fantasy’s I and II – have arrived for the iPhone, greedily sucking apart whatever was left of your free time. The twin franchise leaders – the second of which is the actual Japanese Final Fantasy II and not the NES version of Final Fantasy II (which was really Final Fantasy IV) – are available now in the iTunes store for $8.99 each, a mere pittance when compared to the hours of fun they’ll bring!

And are the graphics updated? As Sarah Palin would say, You Betcha! They look to be the same or similar versions as to the ones released for PSP a few years ago. Check out these sweet screenshots Mashable pulled, and tell me with a straight face that this isn’t the most exciting thing to happen to the iPhone since 3g.

iTunes Update Rumored To Include Cloud MP3 Storage

PC Mag is reporting that TechCrunch is reporting that the founder of MP3.com says that a soon to be released iTunes revision features cloud storage of MP3s. And now, we at Technomaly are reporting on PC Mag’s TechCrunch MP3.com scoop! This is how the internet works, folks – one big game of telephone, and at the end of that telephone is the movie Snakes On A Plane.

According to MP3.com’s Michael Robertson, Apple’s purchase of LaLa.com (a music service that stores your purchases in the cloud) means an iTunes integration – the ability to hear your entire iTunes library from any web browser in the world.

Too good to be true? We’ll find out soon enough – Apple’s rounding out January with a launch event, but this idea makes a lot of sense. How great would it be to watch your iTunes television library streamed through the web? Or listen to a podcast on your home computer from your work computer sans iTunes? File this one under “we’ll see,” and then put that file in a bigger file marked, “I sure as hell hope so.”
