As if the headline and magazine cover didn’t make this perfectly clear, Valve has announced that Portal 2 is heading for gamers this holiday season. To prepare the way for the release, several updates to Portal have been pushed through, including a new achievement, mysterious sound files, and the addition of a new ending, which is below:

What’s that robot saying at the end? Apparently, “Thank for you assuming the party escort submission position,” which is a reference to an earlier level (what it means still escapes me, as does a lot of what GLaDOS says).

Additionally, heading to the Aperture Science website plays an animated gif with a christmas-themed version of “Still Alive,” including a weighted companion cube in a Santa hat. It’s adorable.

What games will make the jump with Steam? Well, from the looks of the campaign, Half Life, Team Fortress, Portal & Left 4 Dead will all be coming on board, which is more exciting to me than the discovery of cold fusion. As for the rest of the Steam library, we’re going to have to stay tuned, but honestly, if we could just get those four games, Mac gaming would be completely changed.
