First you’re chosen as the setting of the wildly successful Sex and The City, and now this! Time Warner cable has opened thousands of free Wi-Fi hotspots to all of their Road Runner internet customers. According to the press release, over one million customers now have access to free Wi-Fi. The fee Wi-Fi zones include:

Eight commuter rail platforms on the Long Island Railroad Port Washington line: Woodside, Flushing Main Street, Murray Hill, Broadway, Auburndale, Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck;

Manhattan: Bryant Park, Madison Square Park and 79th Street Boat Basin;

Four parks in Queens: Bowne Park and Kissena Park in Flushing, Baisley Pond Park and Railroad Park in Jamaica.

Congrats, you lucky SOBs. Your city already has the best bagels and the craziest bums, and now you’ve got the best public internet as well. Then again, you also have Rudy Giuliani, so that balances things out a little bit.

The Wi-Fi fridge has arrived. Our long national nightmare is over.
Too long have we been forced to use pitiful, criminally simple refrigerators with absolutely no Wi-Fi access whatsoever. Kids would cry themselves to sleep at night, whispering, “Mommy, why can’t my fridge communicate with the internet?” – a prayer that until now had gone unheeded.
Samsung,

Our long national nightmare is over.

Too long have we been forced to use pitiful, criminally simple refrigerators with absolutely no Wi-Fi access whatsoever. Kids would cry themselves to sleep at night, whispering, “Mommy, why can’t my fridge communicate with the internet?” – a prayer that until now had gone unheeded.

Samsung, a company who will forever be known as “our national heroes,” has released the Zipel e-Diary, a fridge with a built in 10 inch touchscreen that’s constantly connected to the internet. The touchscreen can take notes, update and display your Google Calendar, report the news and weather, and even provide nutritional value about the food you’re making.

The display also functions as a digital photo frame, and has a memory card reader. It runs for the paltry price of $2,170 US dollars, a mere pittance for the heartbreak it’ll save you. The heartbreak, and loneliness, of not having a Wi-Fi fridge is now a thing of the past.

Once again, we all wake up to a story of Apple arbitrarily removing apps from their iTunes App Store – some which have been sold for years – for vauge and arbitrary reasons.

Today’s victims? Wi-Fi stumbling programs like WiFiFoFum, WiFi-Where and yFy Network Finder, which are all designed to help you find open wireless networks. You know, the same thing your iPhone does when you ask it to.

The reason? “Using private frameworks to access wireless information.” What? Why not just ban the iPhone from accessing any unprotected network, then? Because that’d have an even better effect on halting access to unprotected wireless networks.

The days of the one-man iPhone app developer are quickly vanishing – if you can’t be sure that your app won’t be removed for no good reason, why even bother spending the hours and hours coding the program in the first place?
